The first Walmart Training Academy opens to the public and celebrates its first graduating class on at 8am CT, Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Columbia Walmart, 2988 Burkesville Road. Columbia, KY.
The Columbia location will be training approximately 90 Kentucky Walmart employees per week, and was selected, according to local Walmart leaders, because of its central location in the Kentucky Walmart “market”, its parkway convenience and the fact that “it’s just a really good store.”
Columbia is one of 200 Training Academies scheduled to open across the USA by the end of 2017. Walmart Training Academies are a dedicated facility where the company’s front-line supervisors will receive hands-on training that combines the classroom and the sales floor.
The training will help department managers and hourly supervisors gain both core retail skills and the skills and knowledge to run their specific department. The Academies are part of Walmart’s $2.7 billion commitment to its associates.
In addition to the first graduates and Walmart leadership at the January 19 celebration will be representatives from Lindsey Wilson College, Adair County 911, and the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
